Internally designated Type 1J, it rides on the Volkswagen A4 (PQ34) platform. The car’s styling differed little from the concept.

The transversely placed 1.8 liter 20-valve turbo I4 utilizes a hybrid BorgWarner KKK K03 series turbo charger with integrated waste gate that is feeding the engine through a single side-mount air-to-air charge air cooler. The engine is equipped with 317cc/min fuel injectors operating at a fuel pressure of 3 bar. The factory installed 2.25" turbo back exhaust system with catalytic converter is a major restriction.

AutoSpeed offers 2 solutions for Stage 1 customers.

Stage[1] consists of a software upgrade only, no additional parts are required. The software is calibrated to maximize performance while operating within the stock fuel injectors' flowrates and stock turbo efficiency range. The peak horsepower increases by a solid 21 hp to 201hp, the all important midrange, however, is where Stage[1] shines: adding an amazing 49 hp at 3600rpm and 74 lb-ft at 3500rpm.

Stage[2] software requires a hardware upgrade consisting of an ASP turboback exhaust system (not included in price). The additional flow provides less back pressure and allows for quicker spool and a higher boost level between 3000 and 4000rpm. The peak horsepower increases by a solid 33 hp to 213hp, the all important midrange, however, is where Stage[2] shines: adding an amazing 58 hp at 3600rpm and 89 lb-ft at 3400rpm.
